Pre-Admissions/Introduction to Massage Therapy CourseDescriptionAll applicants to the Massage Therapy Diploma Program are required to take Elmcrest's Pre-Admissions Science Course prior to commencing the Massage Therapy Diploma Program and receive a mark of 75% or greater in the Final Examination, as well as participate in the practical component. The course was designed to help students get a clear picture of the Massage Therapy Diploma Program they are about to enter – it helps students to reconfirm they are registered in the right program and that they have the academic ability to do well in the program. This course may also be taken by individuals who are considering applying for Massage Therapy for the coming term or for the following term and wish to evaluate their current competency level in the classroom. Once successfully completed, your course grade will be valid toward the following two start dates. If you are currently not an applicant but wish to participate in this course you may contact the Admissions Officer to register at During this course we will familiarize students to key definitions and basic terminology of anatomy and physiology, with emphasis on the relationship between structure and function. Students will be introduced to the basic vocabulary necessary for the study of the human body, and will receive an understanding of how individual structures relate to the body as a whole. The course includes a study of the cell and tissues in order to facilitate an understanding of body systems. A basic overview of the skeletal system, muscular system, nervous system, cardiovascular system and lymphatic system is presented.
